Computer Networks: Interactive Teaching, Active Learning Teaching is effective only when it is interactive, and real conceptual learning is possible only through active participation of the student.

But how can a teacher interact with a large class? Or gauge the mental attendance of several students?

This talk recounts our experience with teaching the “Computer Networks” course, in the flipped classroom model.

We have used two tools developed at CSE/IITB:

• BodhiTree, an interactive multimedia book platform for flipped classrooms.
• SAFE, an app-based system to conduct cheating-free quizzes in class.

With these tools, our classes have had near-100% mental attendance, and learning has been quantifiably better. The talk will also report on the specific use of these tools, in integration with hands-on exercises for learning computer networks.
