About the Event

The ACM-W India Grad Cohort for Indian women in research is a flagship mentoring initiative designed to support, inspire, and empower women graduate students in computing and related disciplines across India. The 2025 edition of the event will be hosted at IIT Kanpur, bringing together aspiring researchers, accomplished academics, and leading industry professionals in a collaborative and inclusive environment.

CRA-WP has been hosting the Grad Cohort event in the USA, dedicated to supporting women in computing through their graduate studies and beyond. Inspired by this vision, ACM-W India launched its own Grad Cohort initiative in 2018, tailored to the Indian context.

Since then, the event has been held annually, with the aim of empowering Indian women graduate students in computing by fostering meaningful interactions with accomplished women researchers from both academia and industry. The primary aim of the Grad Cohort is to encourage and sustain the participation of women in research careers in computing by providing guidance, mentorship, and a strong support network. Through keynote talks, mentoring sessions, panel discussions, and interactive workshops, the event seeks to:

  • Offer mentorship and career guidance to women pursuing Master’s and Ph.D. programs in computing.
  • Help participants navigate the challenges of a research career, including publishing, networking, and work-life balance.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and motivating environment where women researchers can connect with peers and role models.
  • Promote collaboration and long-term engagement among women in computing research across academic and industry landscapes.
We invite applications from passionate and driven women graduate students who are ready to take the next step in their research journey. The event is open to all women research enthusiasts, especially from Masters and Doctorate programs. The intended audience is students, faculty, and industry professionals. This will be an excellent opportunity to learn from distinguished researchers from industry & academia and gain inspiration from their life experiences, providing a deeper understanding of what research truly entails.
