Call for Submissions
What is this call about?
Teaching is a hard task. There are very few gifted teachers who can make any course interesting and can enable anyone to learn. You could be one of them. Your lectures and course practices could inspire others to love the teaching profession, perform better, and hence provide students with better learning opportunities.
Who can participate
Anybody who loves to teach computing in higher education and is willing to share their techniques with a large community of teachers.
How can you participate
You need to submit an abstract online (max. 800 words) by Aug 10, 2022 on the topic of your interest. Your Abstract must highlight:
- What the specific teaching challenge is that you are trying to address
- How you are addressing the teaching challenge
- Why you think your approach may be/has been successful
- When it works (and when it may not)
- We welcome submissions from all types of institutions! For example, your approach may be best-suited for a specific type of institution such as an engineering institution outside top-tier institutions
What happens next
- Abstract Submitted: Your abstract will be peer-reviewed for shortlisting. Authors of shortlisted submissions will be informed by Aug 18, 2022.
-
Abstracts Shortlisted, Videos submitted: Shortlisted authors will be asked to create and submit a short Video (around 15 minutes) by Sep 18, 2022. This Video should explain in detail how to address the identified teaching challenge.
- You are free to use any format (whiteboard, slides, etc.). We recommend that you use screen-recording software (e.g., OBS Studio) to prepare your video. If you are comfortable with recording yourself, we suggest switching on your video camera. However, this is not necessary.
- If you are introducing some code, you can use any programming language (or even pseudocode).
- Videos shortlisted: Submitted videos will be shortlisted after a peer-review process. These videos will be showcased on the ACM iSIGCSE website and its youtube channel.
- Authors invited to present at COMPUTE 2022: Authors of the best among the shortlisted Videos shall be invited to present their approaches at the ACM 2022 Compute conference: 5-minute presentation followed by 10 minutes Q&A. Registration fee will be waived for those invited to present their teaching challenges.
How will videos be evaluated?
